Other Projects

A listing of other projects I’m working/worked on:

Playcrafting – Unity Bootcamp (September 2017)

A fun little platformer I made for our first project. The ground alignment is a bit inconsistent as this was made before Unity Tilemaps came out. I tweaked the physics to make this very reminiscent of the original NES Super Mario series I grew up with playing.  We learned how to use the animation system within Unity.

Our second project asked us to expand upon the first and create a procedurally generated endless runner version. I decided to go with the concept of the game speeding up as you go along and with each speedup you get more points. You also get points for clearing more difficult platforms and enemy combinations. Lastly I added a glide mechanic to aid the player in navigating over unfavorable combinations and add an element of strategy/timing.

Our third project was a 3D explorer in which we learned about basic 3D navigation and terrain editing + implementing water physics and NavMesh’s. To expand upon this project I decided to pay a homage to one of my other favorite older MMORPG’s Anarchy Online by making a level very similar to that found in the game back in the early 2000’s.

For my final project I decided to create the base for what would eventually become Galactic Idle Star Vindicators. These are some very early screenshots of the game’s core in development and it’s initial presentation state during the final project presentations. I have continued development since then and look to eventual release on the Google Play store to start.

Global Game Jam 2018

Had a ton of fun working with a team to make Crap Connector – a lighthearted game about making connections between a lot of random entities to get something working. This was for the GGJ 2018 theme ‘Transmission’. There were a lot of directions we could’ve taken the game going forward but given the 48 hours from concept to release we barely submitted our final build with the basic gameplay mechanics working just in time! Very pleased we were able to get something in as this was my first ever game jam! Of the 48 hours given we worked a total of ~18 hours from flash card conception to final build with the entire project coded from scratch (+fumbling with Unity Collab. for a bit). We had a team of 3 Unity playcrafting grads which were all developers as we wanted to see what we could come up with.  My role consisted of doing a lot of the core gameplay engine coding in Unity.
